Music Concert by Sowmya - Sruthi Laya

Shruti Laya cordially invites you to the final member concert of 2012.                                               

On Sunday, Oct.21, enjoy the performace by Sowmya, accompanied on the violin by B.U. Ganesh Prasad, mridangam by Neyveli Narayanan, and kanjira by K.V.Gopalakrishnan. As noted, this is a Member Concert, free for all Shruti Laya members and children 18 and under.

Vijayadhwani School Day 2013

Vijayadhwani School day  was on June 1st at Morganville, NJ.
It was a wonderful musical morning at Guruvayoorappan temple hall , all my students performed great and this year , Most of them sang with accompainment of Mridangam and Violin.
Sarmishta, student of Smt.Radhika Devarajan played Violin and Mridangam was by Anirudh Shankar and Anirudh Govind, students of T.S.Nanda Kumar Sir.

 Some of the songs rendered were Ganesha Pancharatnam, Lingashtagam, Raminchuva Revarura Thyagaraja Kriti, Shree guruguha Dikshitar kriti, Gatha Moha Thyagaraja Krithi, Jaya Jaya Devi tamil devotional songs, along with all geethams, Swarajathis ,nottuswarams and few bhajans. The kids were all excited to perform on stage and did their best.
The event started with the prayer song by all students of Vijayadhwani followed by a couple of songs by me (the teacher) and the students' solo and group performances.
All the students were given a participation trophy and certificate at the end.
  It was great to see the kids dressed up so traditionally , and we can be relieved that our Indian culture will definitely be alive in U.S. as it is totally in the hands of these younger generation who are learning this art of Carnatic Music with the support from their parents who motivate them.

Vijayadhwani Students in Bharathiar Vizha Celebration

'Bharathiar Vizha' was organized by New Jersey Tamil Sangam in memory of the great tamil poet and the freedom fighter 'Subramania Bharathiar'. The kids participated in drawing and poem recital competition. Students of Vijayadhwani performed a Subramania Bharathiar composition 'Ninnai Charanadainthen' followed by 'Villu Pattu' that depicted the life of the great poet. ' Bharathiar Vizha' on December 15th, 2013 at Bridgewater temple auditorium, New Jersey.

Vijayadhwani Students at Sai Mandhir, NJ

It was a great evening today(March 15th, 2014) at Sai Mandhir, North Brunswick, NJ.
My students had a wonderful opportunity to perform in the temple in the sannidhi of Seeradi Saibaba.

  The students sang around 20 bhajans accompanied by Archit Krishna in Tabla ,
 It was a bliss to hear the kids sing and the two hours of evening was splendid filled with good music.

Carnatic Music lessons starts with Swaravali Varisai where the students get introduced to the seven swaras. Sa,(Shadjam), Ri (Rishabam), Ga (Gandharam), Ma (Madhyamam), Pa(Panchamam), Dha(Dheivatham) and Nishadam(Ni).
   I was able to record and post the swaravali varisai lessons for my students and all others who have started to take their music lessons.
  Hope the students will find this useful for their practice sessions and master the sarali varisai lessons.

'Mayil meedhu vilayadum' sung and made famous by Smt.Nithyasree Mahadevan has become a top of my favourite list,  so close to my heart.

 The Dheivadam in the raaga 'V(a)asanthi' which is a janya of 27th mela 'Sarasangi' raaga brings out such a soul feeling sometimes a sad mood too.
